Typhoon: Do's and Don'ts BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the disaster
The Philippines is prone to heavy rain fall or which we can call typhoon. Every year, about an average of 20 typhoons is hit the country making it a "normal" scenario. Typhoons can strike anytime, however it usually comes between August and October (which is the rainy season). They always leave something disastrous after so what we can do is to be prepared at all times. Below are some things you need to know before a typhoon strikes:
Before Typhoon
- Keep yourself updated with the latest weather report.
- Prepare necessities such as food and water, money, important documents, clothes, first aid kit etc...
- Plan an evacuation route as early as now.
- Expect power outage. Charge your phone, power bank, radio and flashlights.
During Typhoon
- Stay inside your house. Don't evacuate unless told.
- Monitor the weather report through the television and on the internet. If the power is out, use your radio.
- Turn of main power switch to avoid being electrocuted.
- Call emergency hotlines immediately if you're in danger.
After Typhoon
- Be aware of your surroundings. Make sure your house is in good condition before entering.
- Watch out for power outlets that may immersed in water.
- Wear protective gear such as boots to prevent catching water-borne diseases.
- Get injuries treated as soon as possible.
